HTTP status code
An HTTP status code is the three-digit number a server returns with every page, saying whether the request worked.
In a little more detail
200 means fine, 301 means moved permanently, 404 means not found, 500 means the server broke. A page that looks fine to a person can still be returning the wrong one of these.
